For certifying passive fire protection: the doors, walls, ceilings and seals that stop fire and smoke spreading.

65 licensees on QBCC’s register hold this class. 40 hold it as a contractor licence, so can sign a contract with you directly.

What this licence covers
  • Fire doors and fire shutters
  • Fire dampers
  • Fire collars, which seal pipes where they pass through a fire-rated wall or floor
  • Other fire-rated seals around pipes, cables and joints
  • Fire and smoke walls, and fire-rated ceilings

Not covered

  • Inspecting and testing the equipment, which needs a separate inspect and test licence

Good to know

Fire protection licences cover the fire safety equipment in a building. You’ll mostly see them on apartment blocks, offices, shops and other larger buildings.

To certify means to sign a certificate saying the equipment still meets its design, usually after a yearly check.
