About the data
Everything on this site comes from the Queensland Building and Construction Commission’s open data, published on the Queensland Government Open Data Portal.
The source
We use three files from the QBCC Licensed Contractors Register dataset:
- the register of licences that haven’t been cancelled, including suspended ones;
- suspensions recorded so far this financial year;
- cancellations recorded so far this financial year.
QBCC refreshes them around 7 am Brisbane time. We load them each morning, after checking they look complete. If they don’t, we keep showing the previous day rather than publish something wrong.
What we change
- We tidy capitalisation, so “JANE CITIZEN” shows as “Jane Citizen”. The original name is kept.
- We show only the suburb, state and postcode from each business address. We don’t store or show street addresses. If an address can’t be read reliably, we show the postcode only.
- We group licences by class and suburb to make the trade and suburb pages.
- We say whether a licence lets someone contract with you, based on its grade: builder and trade contractor licences can, supervisor and occupational licences can’t.
- We keep suspensions and cancellations after they drop out of QBCC’s financial-year files, so our record goes back to 1 July 2026 and grows over time.
What it can’t tell you
The data doesn’t say why a licence was suspended or cancelled, whether a suspension has been lifted, or anything about the quality of someone’s work. It also doesn’t include electricians, who are licensed by the Electrical Safety Office. For the full, current picture, use QBCC’s licence search.
