Carpentry

Carpenters build and fix the timber and steel frames of a house, and the doors, windows, stairs and floors that go in it.

28,070 licensees on QBCC’s register hold this class. 24,117 hold it as a contractor licence, so can sign a contract with you directly.

What this licence covers
  • Wall and roof frames in timber or steel
  • Internal walls that don’t hold up the roof
  • Windows and doors, including the frames, locks and handles
  • Floor and ceiling framing, and timber or sheet flooring
  • Outside cladding, fascias and eaves linings
  • Metal roofing
  • Timber stairs
  • Internal linings, panelling and mouldings
  • Simple concreting, including formwork and reinforcement

Not covered

  • Plumbing, drainage, gas, electrical or termite work

Good to know

Like most trade licences, it also lets the holder do small jobs from another class that are part of the main job, as long as each is worth less than $3,300 and isn’t plumbing, drainage, gas or other work that needs its own licence.
