Three checks before you sign a building contract

  1. The right licence for the job

Each licence class covers set work, and only a contractor licence lets someone sign a contract with you. A supervisor licence alone doesn’t.

  2. Home warranty insurance

For residential work over $3,300, your contractor must take out QBCC home warranty insurance for the job.

  3. A capped deposit

A deposit can be no more than 20% on jobs of $3,300 or less, 10% on $3,301 to $19,999, and 5% on $20,000 or more.
